However, there has been an increase in the rate of domestic violence as a result of the lockdown which have left a lot of women with disabilities vulnerable both at home and those providing the palliative. With regards to domestic violence and abuse, women with disabilities are usually the worst hit as they suffer abuse even from their caregivers.
Therefore, having considered the increase in GBV and it’s implications on women with disabilities, FACICP Disability Plus under the leadership of Ekaete Judith Umoh, the Executive Director/Founder who happens to be the Vice Chair West African Federation of the Disableds slung into action by launching Situation Room on Women with Disabilities and COVID— 19. This is to provide avenue where women who are experiencing one form of violence or other can get adequate support.
