Formal setting for the life of people with disabilities in society

The United Nations Convention on Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), adopted by the Human Rights Council of United Nations in 2006, stipulates in its Article 19 Autonomy of life and inclusion in society.

The Human Rights Council, convinced that a comprehensive and integrated international convention to promote and protect the rights and dignity of people with disabilities and will contribute significantly to remedying the deep social disadvantage experienced by people with disabilities and that this convention will promote their participation, on the basis of equality with opportunities, in all spheres of civil, political, economic, social and cultural life, in developed and developing countries alike.
The United Nations Convention on Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), stipulates in its Article 19 Autonomy of life and inclusion in society:

States Parties to this Convention recognize the right of all persons with disabilities to live in society with the same freedom of choice as other persons and take effective and appropriate measures to facilitate for persons with disabilities the full enjoyment of this right as well as their full integration and participation in society, in particular by ensuring that:
a) People with disabilities have the possibility to choose, on the basis of equality with others, their place of residence and where they will live and that they are not obliged to live in a particular living environment;
b) People with disabilities have access to a range of home or residential services and other supportive social services, including the personal assistance necessary to enable them to live in and integrate into society and to prevent ’’ they are not isolated or victims of segregation;

c) Social services and facilities intended for the general population are made available to people with disabilities on an equal basis with others and are adapted to their needs.
This formal setting should allow people with disabilities to claim their right to participate in societal life while maintaining their autonomy.
