GAMBIA ORGANISATION OF THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED (GOVI) ORGANIZED TWO DAYS CONSTITUTIONAL REVIEW

The Constitution of Gambia Organisation Of Visually Impaired (GOVI) is the Supreme Document which governs its entire members. The preamble of its constitution postulates in part 1 follows; While appreciating the field of visually impairment we believe that visually impaired can participate in the development of a nation,to ensuring that, to be visually impaired does not mean inability. The aim of (GOVI) is to prevent blindness and improve sights. GOVI is neutral in respect of politics, religion, ethnicity, etc.

In light of the foregoing established facts encapsulated in the said constitution of GOVI, it brought together two delegates from each of its ten local branches across the country. Each local branch sent two representatives to participate in the review. The review process was approached with caution in that, some of the amendments couched and reached therein includes the unanimous decision that, its Executive Director shall be Visually Impaired. However, its Programme Manager may be a Sighted who may assist the said executive Diector in his absence. For the First Time in the constitution of GOVI, Article 9 in its Provision makes available COMMUNICATION AND ACCESSIBILITY in accordance with UNCRPD.
The review was moderated and championed by Magistrate Muhammed Krubally, who is the Secretary General of Gambia Organisation Of The visually Impaired and doubles as Chairman, Gambia Federation Of The Disabled.
All the participants in the reviewe process and procedure expressed satisfaction. The said reviewed constitution shall be presented in the next National General Conference for approval in the year 2022.
