INCLUSIVE EDUCATION: WHAT IS IT?

We and the NGOs we support, believe that it is our responsibility to support all children and adolescents in their learning experiences.

The child is at the center of ASED’s thinking and mission.
The Inclusive education means that all children, whoever they are, can learn together. This eliminates any obstacles that could limit their participation. This educational system is at the heart of the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG4) and of the Education 2030 agenda, and highlights the diverse needs, capacities and characteristics of all children and young people, and the different forms of discrimination.
Equal educational opportunities remain a challenge around the world.
Disability is one of the main causes of exclusion; however, there are also other social, institutional, physical and behavioral barriers to inclusive education. Children with disabilities remain one of the groups most excluded from education. Of the one billion people with disabilities in the world, 150 million are children, according to the World Health Organization.
How do we integrate children with disabilities into a national education system?
The program we are supporting in Albania is one of ASED’s oldest. In response to the stigma against people with disabilities, the poorly adapted school layout and the lack of teacher training, we have, with the support of the Albanian government, built, renovated, equipped or improved around 15 day centers and residential, set up university training for specialized educators and conducted continuing education for center staff.
Inclusive educational systems can in turn foster more inclusive societies.
ASED works to reach out to excluded and marginalized groups and enable young people to develop their full potential. The projects that are in place aim to enable children and adolescents to access learning conducive to their autonomy and self-determination.
Today, many actors in international cooperation and in the social field are promoting inclusion and equity as the foundations of quality education.
