The full Citizenship of People with Disabilities in Mali in the 2020 legislative electoral process, the NDI is getting started!

The Training of trainers on citizenship of people with disabilities in the electoral process and the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities from March 12 to 13, 2020 in the conference room of the National Support Network for the Promotion of Social and Solidarity Economy (RENAPESS) in Bamako.

The Charter of Public Commitment for Emergence (CEPE) coalition is made up of four (04) Civil Society Organizations, namely: the Reflection and Information Circle for the Consolidation of Democracy in Mali (Cri-2002 ) ,, the Mutual Aid Association for the Intellectual Development of Malian Women (ADEFIM), the Network of Young Active Workers (RJA), the Malian Federation of Disabled Persons (FEMAPH).
The CEPE, with the support of the National Democratic Institute (NDI), implements the activities of objective 1 of the EMERGE program: promoting informed citizen participation throughout the electoral process, with particular emphasis on voters as women, youth and other traditionally marginalized groups.
During the EMERGE program’s life, the CEPE and its member CSOs will conduct campaigns to support the various elections and reforms undertaken by the Malian state. It will probably be:
Legislative elections in 2020;
Constitutional reform;
Reform on territorial reorganization;
Regional, senatorial and municipal elections;
Electoral reform.
Hence this two-day training of trainers at the six local federations in the district of Bamako and those of Kayes and Koulikoro.
The modules were among others:
Rights and duties of citizens;
Definition of citizenship;
Different types of citizens’ rights;
Values attached to citizenship;
Role of a MP;
Participation of people with disabilities in public and political life;
Different approaches to disability;
International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CDPH).
