GAMBIA UNITED SOCIETY DONATED ACCESSIBLE MATERIALS TO GLOBAL INITIATIVE SUPPORT FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

On Thursday the 12 March 2020, Gambia United Society based in London in the United kingdom presented disability accessible materials for Persons With Disabilities through a Disable People’s Organisation called Global Iniatives Support for Persons With Disabilities (GISP) at the governor's office in brikama, west coast region, in celebration of their twenty third anniversary.

These accessible materials presented include ; forty Wheelchairs, Twenty Walkers and Ten Zuma Frames. Indisputably, the wheelchairs will improve accessibility by Persons With Disabilities in accordance with Article (9) of UN Convention On the Rights Of Persons With Disabilities. The Ten Zuma Frames will also boost education for the Blind and Partially Sighted in terms of Education in accordance with Article (24) of the same UN Convention On The Rights Of Persons With Disabilities. At this ceremony, the Governor of West Coast Region, called Bakary Sanyang said this donation will go a long way in facilitating the quick and comfortable movement of Persons With Disabilities around places. He also said the use of Zuma Frames by the blind will also make participation by the blind students in class easier. The Governor concluded by appealing to all authorities and other philanthropies to do more to support Persons with disabilities both interms of education and mobility.
The Regional Coordinator called Haruna badjie working for Social Welfare Department also expressed appreciation of the gesture.
Chairperson of GISP Called Ansumana Sano also welcome the gesture and appeal for more support for persons with disabilities in terms of their needs.
