Public buildings a headache for people with disabilities in Bamako

In Bamako, most public buildings are inaccessible to people with disabilities. This situation greatly limits the access of women and children with disabilities to basic social services

The Malian government ratified the CRPD in 2008 In application of the said Convention, the Minister of Urban Planning and Housing sent a technical note to the national directors asking them to take into account the disability dimension in the model plan and to modify the buildings already built.
Despite all these commitments, access to public buildings is a real problem for people with disabilities. That is why in 2016 FEMAPH undertook major advocacy campaigns with decision-makers. This has led to the accessibility of several infrastructures, including the entry of Gabriel Touré University Hospital, the CICB and the administrative city.
