BLIND MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME ORGANISED IN THE UPPER RIVER REGION OF THE GAMBIA

On Saturday 15 February, 2020, a Blind Organisation called Start Now organised a ten days Blind Mentorship Programme at the Upper River Region Of The Gambia. The mentorship was aimed at teaching and training blind students with the use of computer, braille, orientation and mobility with the use of white cane, daily living skills amongst others. The opening of this programme was punctuated and attended by a high powered delegation such as the Director of Regional Education Office in the Upper River Region, Chairman Of Gambia Federation Of The Disabled, Representative Of Special Needs Education Unit under the auspices of Ministry Of Basic And Secondary Education, Ambassador of Sight Box among other dignitaries.

This is the First time that such am important mentorship thereby changing the lives of blind students in the Upper River Region was held. Speakers at this programmed expressed similar sentiments that, such training for the blind students in the region will positively impact their lives and inculcate hope in them in terms of employment, independent living pursuing education at a higher level.
The Executive Director and Founder of Start Now, Mr. Alieu Jaiteh in his speech stated that, his Organisation is committed to decentralise the mentorship Programme to all the six regions of The Gambia in order to make blind and visually impaired independent.
