GAMBIA FEDERATION OF THE DISABLED COMMEMORATES INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

On Thursday, 3rd December, 2020, Gambia Federation Of The Disabled joins the world with its DPOS Affiliates and Persons With Disabilities to observe the International Day Of Persons With Disabilities. The IDPWD has been set assite by the United Nations with its Resolution 47/3 that, third December, annually be observed around the world.

The theme for December 3rd 2020 ;
“Building Back Better, toward the Disability Inclusive, Accessible and Sustainable Post Covid19 World.” Some of the purposes of the commemoration is to remind governments and other duty bearers their obligations to respect, protect and promote the inherent dignity and fundamental rights of Persons With Disabilities. Other challenges such as, Employment, Education, access to health and health services are other important factors to be amicably discussed by the participants on this important occasion.
Some of the partners that joined Gambia Federation Of The Disabled include; United Nations Organisations For Human rights, European Union, International Research Institute, Ministry for Women, Children and Social Welfare, National Assembly Members, The Media, Volunteers and Persons With Disabilities across the country.
For the first time in the History of The Gambia, The Umbrella Federation decentralised the event to the West Coast Region of The Gambia where, most of the Persons With Disabilities are residing.
The event was indeed a successful one.
