GAMBIA FEDERATION OF THE DISABLED HELD A TWO DAY COORDINATION MEETING WITH ITS AFFILIATE DPOS

The Gambia Federation of the Disabled organized a two day quarterly coordination meeting with its affiliate Disabled Persons Organisation (DPOs) across the Country. The meeting was held on 17th and 18th of June 2020 in the Feederations premises. The constitution of the federation accords it to organize meetings with its affiliate DPOs on quarterly basis.

It is against this backdrop that the federation brought together its members to discuss the challenges faced by persons with disabilities and their respective organisations in trying to advocate for the rights of PWDs and the possible solutions to address this challenges. Some of the challenges identified by the participants present in the forum were :
1. Inadequate finance
2. Technical skills
3. Employment, Etc.
The strengths and weaknesses of the affiliate DPos and the federation were discussed. As members of the forum took turns to address the gathering. They all hailed the achievements of the federation over the past year since after the election of the new board under the leadership of our able chairman Magistrate Muhammed Krubally.

On the last day of the meeting, The coordinator of the meeting MR Rod Hawes who serves as the programme coordinator of the federation brought forward an idea of delegating a individual who will be neutral to serve a s a liaison officer between the federation and its member DPOs, The idea was welcomed by all and The Terms of Reference was set for the position which marked the end of session.
