GAMBIA FEDERATION OF THE DISABLED IN COLLABORATION WITH WEST MINSTER FOUNDATION FOR DEMOCRACY ESTABLISHED A TASK FORCE COMMITTEE

Following many pending obligations envishaged in UNCRPD, National Constitution of The Gambia, Pending Draft Persons With Disabilities Bill of The Gambia and many other local and International Instruments such as provision of accessible Education, Employment, Economic Independence, Accessibility to Public Buildings, the list goes on, it was thought by West Minster Foundation for Democracy in collaboration with Gambia Federation Of The Disabled to establish A Vibrant Task Force Committee to look in to ways of realising these obligations by stakeholders;

In consequence of the foregoing ambition by the two foundations, on Thursday 9th July 2020, GFD and WFD formed or established 8 man task force committee at the headquarters of Gambia Federation Of The Disabled. The objectives of the established committee are ;

To engage stakeholders in the realisation and implementation of the fundamental rights and freedoms of Persons With Disabilities in The Gambia.
To effectively and efficiently raise awareness through strong advocacy on Radio Stations, Television Stations, Newspapers and other accessible multi-media.
Ppromote equality, empowerment and non-discrimination of Persons With Disabilities in a barrier free environment.
To also ensure Gender participation by Persons With Disabilities in all spheres of life in ensuring diversity at both local and international level.
To also ensure that every 3rd December set aside for commemoration of Persons With Disabilities known as World Disability Day is observed.

In consequence of the foregoing established Task Force Committee, a concept notes is already developed with its attached budget to ensuring that, all or some of the activities contained therein will be realised. The committee shall be meeting on regular bases periodically to monitor these activities especially their implementation by the stakeholders. The committee shall also be looking in to the implementation of Persons With Disabilities Bill pending enactment before the National Assembly of the Gambia and the pending domestication of UNCRPD.
