On Wednesday 9th December and Thursday 10th December, 2020, Gambia Federation Of The Disabled with other National Federations from West Africa joined there West African Umbrella Federation and held conference on access to health by Persons With Disabilities. It can be recalled that, Article 25) of the United Nations Conventions On The Rights Of Persons UNCRPD) enjoins states parties to ensure that health and health services are affordable, reasonable and accessed to PWDS
The conference was attended by representatives from Ministries of Health sectors from West African countries. At the conference, many presenters and contributors observed that, nurses and doctors should be trained on how to handle Persons With Disabilities at the clinics and that, health facilities and centers should also be available for PWDS which should be affordable, reasonable and to a larger extent, even free of charge.
It was strongly, recommended that, Health and health services for PWDS are their human rights. States are also called upon to ratify the CRPD and domesticate same to be binding.
