GAMBIA ORGANISATION OF THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED (GOVI) JOINS THE WORLD IN COMMEMORATING WORLD WHITE CANE DAY

Every 15 October of each year, Visually Impaired Organisations observes World White Cane Day. The purpose of observing this important day is to enlighten and sensitise the Visually Impaired/Blind People with Governments and duty bearers the significants of the White Cane often used by the Blinds in order to make their movements possible and easier. The White Cane to the Blinds and many are symbols of identity.

The White Canes helps protect and prevent the blind people when working from not coming in to contact with object dangerous to their lives on the street. It is recognise that, Blind people always use the white cane for safety purposes.
For the first time in the history, Gambia Organisation of the visually impaired decentralised the 15 Ocober, 2020 to Central River Region Of The Gambia in other to make other blind people at the region feel proud to host such important event for the visually impaired.
The event was attended by Visually Impaired Persons both from the urban and rural areas of The Gambia, Governor Of Central River Region, School Teachers, Sympathisers, the Media, parents of the blind Etc.
By virtue of this event, parents expressed hopes and confident that, their children will use White Cane to move or travel with.
