The Nigerien government has adopted a draft law in the Council of Ministers determining the fundamental principles relating to the socio-professional integration of people with disabilities.
According to the Government, it is a matter of promoting, protecting and ensuring the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and all fundamental freedoms for people with disabilities and promoting respect for their dignity.
This enshrines the right to respect for their private life, their protection against exploitation, violence and ill-treatment. Also, their right to education, vocational training, employment and work.
Before this draft law, Niger had already adopted and ratified several texts in favor of disabled people, notably the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and its optional protocol.
Texts and many others which, according to the Minister of Population, Amadou Aissata Issa Maiga, make Niger one of the countries most equipped with legal instruments and the protection of disabled people in the sub-region.
