No discrimination towards persons with disabilities in faso

The whole population of people with disabilities is estimated at 10% in Burkina Faso. These people suffer from all kinds of discrimination : in terms of access to education, health and employment.

Many of the problems that people with disabilities face are due to the superstitions of Burkina society. For example, sex with a disabled woman is considered as source of wealth. This internalized fact felt by many people throughout Burkina Faso. This situation can have a dangerous impact on women with disabilities.
Discrimination effected every aspect of people with disabilities lives in Burkina Faso, even in the family, children with disabilities are often less valued than other children. Many taxi drivers do not take people with disabilities and often access to restaurants and businesses is simply denied. In addition, many public services, such as schools and hospitals, are not sufficiently adapted to people with disabilities. Which makes more difficult the daily life of people with disabilities.
Burkina Faso has one of the highest levels of poverty in the world. The poverty rate (the number of people who are below the poverty line) in Burkina Faso is estimated by the World Bank at 46.7% in 2009 and, in 2011, the country was ranked 181st out of 187 countries according to the Index of Human Development of United Nations Development Programs.
