The lack of Legal Representation for Persons with Disability sent Mahamed Smart Kamara to Pademba Road Prison.

Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability specifically talks about Equal Recognition before the Law but that is not happening is Sierra Leone. The surprising part of it is that Sierra Leone has rectified and domesticated the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability and the Convention came into existence in 2006.

Mohamed Smart Kamara is a Polio victim who has been appearing the Ross Road Court for the past three weeks and other Disabled Peoples Organization tried their best for him to have a Legal Representation but their efforts failed.

In the end of Smart’s appearance with out any legal representation, the judge had no option but to send him to the Pademba Road Prison.
Smart is an orphan and his relatives have not been cooperating with him even before the incident happened.
