WEST MINSTER FOUNDATION FOR DEMOCRACY PRESENTED CONCERNS OF HOW CORONAVIRUS IMPACTED THE LIVES OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

It can be vividly recalled that, The prevalence of Coronavirus imposed a lots of hardships upon individuals, governments, entities and many more. Life becomes very difficult for people, particularly, Persons With Disabilities, who are inevitably, considered and classed the most vulnerabled and disadvantaged in the society.

It was against these backdrops, West Minster Foundation for Democracy in collaboration with its affiliates such as Special Needs Units of the Ministry Of Basic And Secondary Education, British High Commissioner and others engaged the Gambia Federation Of The Disabled including its Registered Disabled Peoples Organisations to share their ideas and experiences during the prevalent pandemic. Just as mentioned above, the rallying cries of PWDS are lack of adequate food support, Difficult of survival for them and their families, Lack of Enough or no money, Lack of information at all or in the format required and relevant, lack of access to health and health services, etc. PWDS Complained that, there is no existing plan to include PWDS in programmes and policies and decisionmakings etc.
The concerns of PWDS are catalogued in to a report and thus, with the good effort of West Minster Foundation For Democracy organised a day to report the dilemma of PWDS including Women, Children and other maginalised groups for submission of such report to the British High Commissioner.
British High Commissioner Mr. Davit welcomed the report and promise that, they will do whatever they can.
